BioBusiness Alliance of Minnesota

Enriching Minnesota’s Future Through The Biosciences

The BioBusiness Alliance of Minnesota Teams with Deloitte Consulting for Destination 2025

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. (Jan. 30, 2008) — Destination 2025, a central strategic planning initiative for The BioBusiness Alliance of Minnesota (“BioBusiness Alliance”), announces its teaming with Deloitte Consulting LLP, a leading consulting firm for business strategy, operations, technology and human resource planning. Deloitte will execute the project in collaboration with BioBusiness Alliance and develop statewide life science strategy white papers and roadmaps for each of the biobusiness markets.

Destination 2025 is a statewide, collaborative project to develop a 20-year strategic plan and roadmap to help give clarity to the nature and timing of investments needed to ensure Minnesota’s sustainable long-term competitive position in the industry. The six markets included in Destination 2025 are medical devices, pharma/biologics, animal health, food, renewable energy and biomaterials. In addition, the roadmaps will include recommendations for the evolution of Minnesota’s academic investments, infrastructure and public policy to keep pace with the evolution of the bioscience industry.

“Deloitte has the experience and knowledge of the six markets included in Destination 2025,” said Dale Wahlstrom, CEO of BioBusiness Alliance. “This teaming will strengthen Destination 2025 and accelerate its progress. The reports will be of tremendous value to decision makers in the state of Minnesota.”

The strategic plan or roadmap will include Minnesota-specific implementation strategies and recommendations for each market. The project is lead by co-chairs Alex Cirillo, Ph.D., VP 3M Foundation, and Jim Bensen, President Emeritus Bemidji State University, for BioBusiness Alliance and Steve Dahl, KC Healy, and Mohammed Rehan Malik, Ph.D. from Deloitte. “For Minnesota to be a player in the future of the bioscience-related industries, all constituencies will need to play their role,” said Cirillo. “The purpose of Destination 2025 is to attempt to frame those roles into a meaningful, coherent, compelling strategy.”

The process began in March, 2007 with the renewable energy market as a pilot team. With the initial work on renewable energy market in advanced stage, Deloitte and BioBusiness Alliance, in collaboration with industry experts and Minnesota stakeholders, will develop the roadmaps and white papers. The reports will be circulated starting from summer of 2008. “A better understanding of today provides the base for claiming the best alternatives for tomorrow,” Destination 2025 co-chair Jim Benson commented. “This is extremely critical in determining Minnesota’s future biobusiness global competitiveness.”

The BioBusiness Alliance of Minnesota is an industry-led, action-based 501© (3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of bioscience-related industries to create jobs for the citizens of Minnesota. The charter of the BioBusiness Alliance is to bring together all related areas of the biosciences in a coordinated effort to ensure the long-term health and success of Minnesota’s bioscience industry.
